Paul is a solicitor and the head of McCann FitzGerald’s Technology & Innovation Group. He has 20 years’ specialist expertise in the areas of information technology, outsourcing, data protection and intellectual property matters.

In the area of technology and outsourcing, Paul has acted for suppliers and customers in the drafting and negotiation of big ticket outsourcing agreement, including tolling as a service contracts. Paul also provides specialist advice on data protection matters, including data protection compliance and data security. He acted on the first cases in Ireland on the meaning of personal data (acting for the Irish Central Bank) and processing causing significant distress (acting for the Irish Data Protection Commissioner). He is now acting for a number of clients advising on the steps required to comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation which comes into force in May 2018.

Paul is the author of “Commercial Secrets: The Action for Breach of Confidence in Ireland”. The book has been quoted in judgments of the Irish Supreme Court.
