Croatia to implement new collection system in 2027

Croatia to implement new collection system in 2027
The Croatian government has sent the final bill on toll collection to its Parliament, with the full implementation of the new collection system starting on March 1, 2027.

The new system will seek to enable faster traffic and less congestion, reduced fuel consumption emissions, accessibility for users, safety and flow.

This includes adaptation to users with light vehicles and tourists, and better vehicle control and surveillance.

The electronic toll collection system (ESNC) includes the registration of vehicle license plate data in the ESNC and a valid means of payment only for light vehicles (up to 3.5 tons).\

The in-vehicle ETC device and the technology for automatic license plate reading via cameras (mandatory for heavy vehicles, alternative for light vehicles) remain in use.

According to government materials, the new toll collection system will be introduced from March 1, 2027, on the entire motorway network in the Republic of Croatia with free flow of vehicles, without ramps or stops.

Inclusion in ESNC will be possible through a single national web point of sale for inclusion in ESNC, then through a mobile application for inclusion in ESNC and other digital services, but also on dedicated tracks for quick inclusion in ESNC.
