Nathan has over 20 years of experience working with the public sector at the state and local level.  He has held numerous positions of executive leadership for the Utah Department of Transportation.  His executive leadership has given him the opportunity to initiate change through implementing new products and innovations at a time when the State of Utah is growing rapidly and technology is advancing at a record pace.

As Director of Technology and Innovation, Nathan is leading the research, advancement, and deployment of systems like Utah’s road usage charge, enterprise risk, transportation resilience and other strategic initiatives that influence policy surrounding future transportation and mobility technologies. Perhaps the most exciting part of his current role is leading the charge to define the performance strategies and new technologies needed in transportation to improve the State’s highway mobility and resiliency for assets worth over $34 Billion dollars.

His career has included a variety of experiences in private business as well as local and state government.  His engineering career has included federal steward, planning & programming, asset management, project management, maintenance, materials, pavement, municipal engineering, and city planning.


Nathan is a Professional Engineer and earned his degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University.  He is also a graduate of the AASHTO National Transportation Leadership Institute at the Indiana School of Public and Environmental Affairs.  He has served on numerous transportation committees throughout his career and received the ‘Governor’s Award for Excellence in Leadership’ in 2008 for his extraordinary leadership and commitment to excellence.


Nathan is an avid outdoor enthusiast and loves spending time with his family.  From his youth on the rural farms of Idaho to his current location in the beautiful valleys of Utah, his family has cherished a good life and they love serving people and doing all kinds of activities available in the Utah outdoors.
