Biography

Rajendra Akerkar is a professor of big data technologies at Western Norway Research Institute, where he leads big data research group. His research focuses on application of big data methods to real-world challenges in mobility, energy and disaster resilience, with aim to combine strong theoretical results with high impact practical outcomes. He serves as an expert for many government/non-government agencies. His research and teaching experience includes over 26 years in the Academia spanning different universities in Asia, Europe and North America. Currently he is coordinator of two major research and innovation initiatives on leveraging big data to manage European transport operations and data-driven emergency management funded by the European Commission and the Research Council of Norway respectively.
